In January 1996, I suppose Todd Pipes was having an argument with his ladyfriend. This argument was bad news. It would probably lead to the end of their relationship. His ladyfriend said that they had nothing in common, that the world had come between them. They were falling apart.
So how did Todd Pipes remedy this? He wrote a nice little ditty with his band Deep Blue Something about why he and his ladyfriend should stay together.
The reason? Because they both kinda liked some movie with Audrey Hepburn.
I mean, this is just flawless logic if I've ever heard it. Your relationship is on the skids, and the only straw you have left to grasp is that you both kinda liked "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Not you both LOVED it, you both tolerated it. Neither of you hated it. The same reaction that I had when I took a girl to see that MIT blackjack movie freshman year of college. And THIS, this is what you will cling to in order to save the relationship. All of your other shared memories have somehow been tarnished.
Admittedly, I am not a relationship expert. I'm 24 years old and never had a serious, long-term girlfriend. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if the only reason you're trying to stay together is that you both were mostly neutral about one movie you saw together, you should probably just break up.
