Bob Lobel: Only Injuries Can Slow the Patriots
By Bob Lobel (@boblobel)
It is the sworn duty of those fans in New England to rise up as one and just ignore injuries. It's pretty thin out there on the field, as Patriots standouts are dropping left and right.
The king of the Golden Flashes, Mr. Julian Edleman, could be real a show stopper. What a combination he and Brady have become in a throw and catch league. It has to be policed because, these guys are defining the league. Thin ranks and working with healthy players is almost impossible at this time of year.
There is Amendola and there is Gronkowski, and there is the very much ignored field goal kicker. He is maybe the best ever, with the unenviable job of following the New England hero of heroes, Adam Vinatieri.
Just temper you disappointment since we are moving into Hunger Games territory.
Them or us. Pleasant surprise would get them through, greased up like a stuck pig and recognizing the Gostkowski genius. And be sure to remind the coaches to use him.
The thoughts about the ultimate success of this team cannot be wrapped in the blanket of hope. Stay thirsty, my friends, because this is the most interesting team in the league.
Where are the Red Sox in the mix? Ahead of the Celtics and the Bruins, at least at this stage of the season. Think the Ortiz retirement will be like all the rest that have come before it?
His demeanor as the season plays itself out might bring a separate parade for Mr. Ortiz. He will be watched for attitude issues that have arisen in the past. That will be a scenario worth paying attention to, and then the number 34 retirement drama.
Let's ask for a team that doesn't allow its fans to wallow in the angst of knowing it has the most interesting players, but they are hurt.
By the way, the Peter Pan ad is totally annoying. On the other hand, the sea monster on the golf course ad is a whopper.
One final addition to the sports think tank: Will it bother you if Tiger Woods never gets back to his dominating days? This is the first time I can actually say that my Tiger feelings have pretty well disappeared.
What can I do about that? Stay thirsty, my friends.
