10 Takeaways from the MIAA Football Sectional Finals

Everett won a shootout against Andover, and the Tide offense looks as dangerous as ever heading into the D1 state final.

Ed. Note- Our Massachusetts football guru John Sarianides is back with 10 takeaways from an exciting weekend of sectional title games.

1. Is anyone surprised that Everett beat Andover 62-33? In defense of the Warriors, Everett is loaded. Marvens Fedna tweaks his ankle in the first half, no problem. Sophomore Mike Sainristil and junior Jacob Miller stepped up and filled the void. Everett's program-wide depth is impressive.

The Tide will once again meet Xaverian for the Division 1 Super Bowl on December 3rd. Location for that epic clash is still to be determined, as both the D1 and D4A state title games will not be played at Gillette Stadium this year.

2. King Phillip continues to be one of the best stories in the state after their 33-28 win over a  Bridgewater-Raynham in the Division 1A South final.

The Warriors dominated the line of scrimmage and won a physical game. They will make their first Super Bowl appearance in program history when they take D1A North champion Reading. It should another great game.

3. Duxbury beat North Attleboro 26-19 in what was a great game. The Dragons will have to play much better if they want to beat the surprising Beverly Panthers in the Division 2 Eastern Mass Final. Beverly knocked off powerhouse Billerica on Friday night.

4. Falmouth vs Marblehead will be a doozy in the Division 2A Eastern Mass Final. It's the Flexbone Triple Option versus the Spread. It will be a fun game to watch between two well-coached teams.

5. I knew Hanover was good, but even I was surprised that they beat the Holliston Panthers 40-7 in the Division 3 South Sectional Final. Holliston was rolling along to a third straight Super Bowl appearance, but the Indians avenged last season's playoff loss to the Panthers in a big way.

6. Hanover will face Triton in the Division 3 Eastern Mass final. Triton beat a very good Watertown team 46-32 in a shootout. We could see another shootout between the Indians and the Vikings this week.

7. Shrewsbury might just be the best high school football story in the state. They survived a tough Division 2 Central bracket as the four seed and will now face Westfield for the right to play the winner of Duxbury and Beverly in the Division 2 Super Bowl.

8. West Boylston vs Littleton was an OT thriller on Saturday night. When West Boylston needed to make a big play or continue a drive, they put the ball in the hands of the best running back in the state in Cole McCubrey. McCubrey was a man among boys in the second half, and he was the difference in West Boylston's win.

9. Congrats to the Nipmuc Warriors after their 27-7 win over Uxbridge on Saturday. With the win, the Warriors will face East Bridgewater in the Division 4 state semifinal. Coach Shawn Hill has done a remarkable job with that football program in his two years on the job.

10. I am looking forward to some great games this weekend in Divisions 2 through 4. It should be a fun weekend. As always, SuiteSports will have all of the action covered for you.
