SuiteSports MIAA Football Coverage Preview

St. John's Prep always plays great defense, but the Eagles will face the massive challenge of containing Andover quarterback E.J. Perry IV this weekend.
By SuiteSports Staff

The state tournament has spread from Eastern Mass to the rest of the Commonwealth, and SuiteSports will have reporters across the Bay State checking in on this weekend's biggest games.

Here are the matchups we're watching, and keep in mind that Editor Joe Parello will also be out and about Friday night, he just hasn't figured out which game he'll be covering yet.

Friday

Marshfield at King Phillip, 7 pm

This one has the makings of an instant classic, as Hockomock Kelly/Rex champ King Phillip puts its perfect season on the line against red-hot Marshfield. KP can score with anybody, but the Warriors defense has developed into one of the most dominating units in the state. It should be a great test for the Rams, who have scored 40 or more points in their last five games, all wins.

Jason Siegel will have a full report from Wrentham.

Algonquin at Wachusett, 7 pm

Connor Evans will take in this Mid-Wach A rematch in the D2 Central semifinal. Algonquin is the only team to defeat Wachusett this year, and don't think for a second the Mountaineers have forgotten that.

Look for two teams that can both run the ball, but with underrated quarterbacks in Algonquin's Ryan Barry and Wachusett's Mike Fiorelli, there could be some big plays down the field as well.

Brockton at BC High, 7 pm

Our Matt Feld will be at BC High to watch the Eagles host Brockton. Keep an eye on the trenches, as Brockton's physical offensive line will run up against one of the best defensive lines in the state from BC High.

On the other side of the ball, it should be a prime-time matchup when Eagle running back Danny Abraham looks to get loose against Boxer linebacker Kingsley Ejiogu-Dike.

Catholic Memorial at Xaverian, 7 pm

We'll be pulling double-duty for this one, as reporter Nate Weitzer will be in Westwood alongside videographer Greg Story. The two will combine to give you a full recap and highlights of the Hawks' challenge against CM.

Saturday

Andover at St. John's Prep, 2 pm

Andover quarterback E.J. Perry IV is coming off an absurd nine combined touchdown performance last week, but St. John's Prep has only allowed more than two touchdowns in a game twice all season.

It could be case of unstoppable force meet immovable object when these teams square off in Danvers, and our Matt Feld will be there with a full report.

Bridgewater-Raynham at Wellesley, 2 pm

Finally, Nate Weitzer rounds out our coverage with Wellesley hosting Bridgewater-Raynham. Each of these teams has been a fantastic story this season, and neither was particularly challenged last week in round one.

While the difference in record appears vast (Wellesley is 8-0 while B-R is 5-3), don't be fooled. The Trojans are as battle-tested as anyone in Division 1A, and this one should come down to the wire.
