A Big Thanks from SuiteSports!
By Joe Parello (@HerewegoJoe)
The 2016-2017 academic/athletic year was a wild one for me personally, and I dare say, all of us here at SuiteSports.
When ESPN Boston closed down its High Schools section in the fall, it sent shock waves throughout the Massachusetts scholastic sports community, us included. For those who don't know, I was a freelancer for ESPN Boston, as was our Deputy Editor Nate Weitzer, and ace reporter Matt Feld.
We were all sad to see the ESPN Boston High Schools section, run expertly by Brendan Hall and Scott Barboza for many years, go. But, through that loss came opportunity, the opportunity for SuiteSports to expand and cover more events, players and schools across the state. Thankfully you, the reader, has welcomed us with open arms.
For that, we can't thank you enough, but I also need to thank all of our contributors. From Nate and Matt, on down to literally everybody else who helped SuiteSports go from a site that was lucky to have 20,000 visitors a month, to the over 81,000 visitors we had during the spring tournaments.
I also have to thank WPKZ Radio for giving me a weekly platform to discuss local high school sports, and a chance to increase SuiteSports' presence in Central Mass. It's been a great partnership that will continue into the fall for football, and hopefully far beyond.
Basically, the growth of the site in just a year's time has been unbelievable, but we aren't satisfied. As big as this year was, we want 2017-18 to be bigger still, with us covering even more sports and schools, and bringing on even more contributors to help us cover every corner of the Commonwealth.
Oh yeah, and we'll still occasionally do our pro, college and pop culture pieces. We do need to have our fun.
Anyways, thanks so much to everybody who has visited or contributed to the site in any capacity. We couldn't have had this amazing year without all of you, and we hope you will stay with us for the journey ahead.
All the best,
Joe
